Meet Tom and Jorit: stories from our colleagues at Campercontact

05 December 2024Maybritt Bos

As the manager of a campsite or motorhome site, you have probably heard of Campercontact. But who are the people behind this platform? In this article, we would like to introduce you to our colleagues Tom and Jorit. They will share insights about their work, their personal connection to travel and how they help owners like make the most out of their sites. An inspiring look behind the scenes!

Jorit: traveling through Europe with a mission

A year and a half ago, Jorit decided, along with his girlfriend, to change their lives. Since then, they have been traveling all over Europe in a self-converted motorhome. ‘We wanted to show there is more to life than the traditional house- and garden style in the Netherlands,’ he says. ‘During our travels, we discovered beautiful countries like Greece, Portugal, Morocco and Spain. The combination of working remotely and exploring new places gives us tremendous freedom.’

His work at Campercontact fits seamlessly into this lifestyle. ‘It's great to visit campsites on the road, have personal contact and support owners in increasing their visibility and bookability through our platform,’ Jorit explains. ‘’What makes my travels special is the contact with campsite owners along the way. By visiting new campsites, I meet the people behind the locations. That makes both my travels and my work even more enjoyable. You see how camping life is truly appreciated and how important personal contact is. It is inspiring to see how each campsite has its own unique atmosphere and how passionate the owners are about their place.‘’

One story that particularly inspired Jorit comes from Albania. ‘I spoke to an owner who had just opened his campsite. At first, he didn't understand why people would want to sleep in a ‘’car‘’. But he persevered, started his campsite, and thanks to Campercontact everyone now knows how to find him. He told me that without the platform, he wouldn't have known how to become visible.’

Tom: from hotel industry to motorhome world

Tom Eijssen, 37 years old, lives in beautiful South Limburg with his wife, two children, two dogs and four chickens. Earlier this year, he joined Campercontact. ‘My love for the outdoors is deeply rooted,’ Tom explains. ‘One of my fondest memories is a RV trip through Canada with my partner. There, I really experienced the freedom and adventure of traveling in a motorhome.’

With years of experience in the hotel industry, Tom made an inspiring transition to the motorhome world. ‘It felt like a perfect match,’ he says. ‘Although the hotel and motorhome worlds may seem different at first glance, there are also many similarities. My background helps me to advise and support owners in a way that aligns with their needs.’

What makes his work so special? ‘The personal contact and the diversity of stories,’ Tom explains. ‘Owners often have unique ideas to offer travelers an unforgettable experience. It's great to see how Campercontact can contribute to their success, for example by making their sites bookable.’

An experience that has stayed with Tom happened a few months ago when he was watching Ik Vertrek, a show he enjoys.

'This time, it was about a family that had moved to Southwest France to start a B&B. Their journey really stuck with me, and the next day I decided to call the man from the episode. I told him how much I admired their plans. During our conversation, he mentioned that they didn’t have any income yet because the B&B rooms weren’t ready. I suggested starting with motorhome sites as a simple way to generate income immediately. The idea resonated with him.

Together, we set everything up, and now they regularly welcome motorhome travelers who enjoy their beautiful spot. It feels special to see how something small can make a big difference—for both the travelers and the entrepreneurs who host them. There is also something special about sharing a place you have built yourself, a site you are proud of, and seeing how others enjoy it. That makes it not just a job,, but truly a passion.'

Ultimate holiday destination

At Campercontact, there are colleagues who bring their passion for travel and motorhome into their work. Tom and Jorit, both avid travelers, love to share their personal stories and plans.

‘High on my list is Canada, specifically the west coast, and this time with my children,’ Tom explains. ‘The vast nature, the mountains, the lakes and the wildlife are something I would really love to share with them. And of course I would prefer to do it again in a motorhome. It gives us the freedom to stop wherever we want along the way and discover the most beautiful places together.’

Jorit has a very different way of traveling. ‘I don't actually have any specific holiday destinations on my list,’ he says. ‘I travel around in my motorhome and let myself be guided by what I feel like doing. For instance, I will go from here to Italy, and from Italy by boat to Morocco. After that, I want to head towards southern Spain and the Sierra Nevada. I hope to be there in March, because that's when I have a run planned. It will be a challenging route with 6000 altimeters, something I am incredibly looking forward to.’

With their enthusiasm and expertise, Tom and Jorit are ready to support owners. They look forward to working together and sharing their passion for the motorhome world with you.
