Leave winter behind and head south to the rugged north of Spain. In Asturias and Cantabria, you will travel through a landscape that still feels unspoilt, from the Atlantic coast to the peaks of the Picos de Europa. With your motorhome, you set your own pace and direction. Campercontact helps you discover surprising sites along the way, making each day feel completely different from the last.
If you travel through Asturias in a motorhome, don't miss the Picos de Europa. From Cangas de Onís, the road winds upward to the famous Lagos de Covadonga: two sparkling mountain lakes surrounded by steep peaks and grazing cows. In winter, there is an almost magical silence, making you feel small amidst the mountains. During the warmer months, the road is partially closed to motorhomes, but buses run up from the valley, or you can hike part of the way to fully immerse yourself in the peace and fresh mountain air. Whatever you choose, the journey upward is one of the most beautiful drives you can experience in northern Spain.

Nestled among the green hills of Cantabria lies Santillana del Mar, a village that effortlessly takes you back in time. Its cobblestone streets, stone facades and wooden balconies exude history. Just outside the village are the caves of Altamira featuring impressive murals of bison and horses, some of Europe’s oldest artworks. The original cave is protected, but the replica in the museum is well worth a visit. Here, you’ll discover just how far back the stories of northern Spain go.

"It was our first time as a family! We arrived quite late, and the check-in and payment process was automated, easy and straightforward. The pitches were flat and within walking distance from the centre of Santillana. Everything was clean, well-maintained and the owner was very friendly. The price-quality ratio was good, especially considering it was July. Highly recommended!" - Educaravan

"This is how you show that your municipality values tourists. Excellent motorhome stopover with clean facilities for waste water and chemical toilets. You can also fill up with water for free. The location is quite a distance from the centre (about a 50-minute walk). Lots of greenery in the area, so ideal if you have a four-legged friend with you. Compliments to the city of Oviedo!" - jvandenbragt

One of northern Spain's most beautiful beaches, Playa de Torimbia, is located along the rugged coast of Asturias. The road to the beach winds through green hills and eucalyptus forests until the ocean suddenly appears: deep blue, with white waves breaking on the crescent-shaped bay. From the cliff above the beach, the view is unforgettable. In winter, it is peaceful, with only the sound of the sea and the wind. It is the perfect place to stop for a moment, get some fresh air and feel the freedom of traveling.

"Probably the most beautiful site we have ever stayed. We could choose from pitches with less beautiful views and ended up picking a gorgeous pitch ourselves. The sanitary facilities looked fairly new, though it was quite a climb to get there. The food was delicious, even if there was a small mix-up with our order. Wonderful walking, great swimming, and magical sunrises and sunsets over the sea! We stayed five days instead of three. Amazing!" - ErikEnAnita
Camping La Paz is located right by the sea, on terraces with panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. The access road is steep, but perfectly manageable with a motorhome, and once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with peace and quiet, fresh sea air and a view you will never forget. There is a good restaurant, a bread delivery service and a small beach at the bottom of the campsite.
At the foot of the Picos de Europa lies Potes, a charming mountain village full of stone bridges, narrow streets and small taverns where stews simmer slowly. From the village, you drive into the impressive La Hermida gorge, a narrow road winding between steep cliffs, with viewpoints everywhere that invite you to stop for a photo. At the end of the gorge, natural hot springs await, perfect for relaxing after a day full of impressions.

"Everything that has been said about this place is true. An exceptionally friendly hostess, beautiful location and super clean. Quieter than busy Potes, which you can reach by bike or on foot. You can enjoy tasty food at nearby restaurant, and the bakery provides fresh bread." - Hanny&Paul
Camping Vieda is located just outside Potes, surrounded by greenery, with views of the Picos de Europa mountains. The campsite is small and charming, featuring a swimming pool, restaurant and fresh bread delivered daily from the neighbouring bakery.
